This is how we fix it! #watercrisis #watersolutions

You may have read it somewhere or heard someone say it but you don’t know what it means? h2oCory reveals all!  Ok, i’ll stop the shenanigans, “water crisis” is pretty real and very hardcore.

Water crisis is a term used to refer to the world’s water resources relative to human demand.” (United Nations statement on water crisis)

There are several principal manifestations of the water crisis.

  • Inadequate access to safe drinking water for about 884 million people[9]
  • Inadequate access to water for sanitation and waste disposal for 2.5 billion people[10]
  • Groundwater overdrafting (excessive use) leading to diminished agricultural yields[11]
  • Overuse and pollution of water resources harming biodiversity
  • Regional conflicts over scarce water resources sometimes resulting in warfare

So, if you are new to the idea of what a water crisis is, basically, not enough water where it needs to be, to much pollution where it shouldn’t be, and humans killing each other for it because it’s more valuable than food, gold, oil, and third only to air and God in my book.  It’s a big deal.

You are one of two people.

  1. A toe dipper at a public pool - the idea is nice, but you don’t like the temp.
  2. The eager young child - we’re all getting wet someday, might as well jump in.

I would love for you to be the eager young child, not only because this is my passion, but because this “crisis” is spreading faster that those in America would like to admit.  Soon it will be on everyones front door, 32 United States are already in a state of water crisis and the crisis is growing.  Contractors are building homes where there is already a strain on the water supply, dams are built and water diverted, pollution, drought, etc.

friends and readers,

my good friend Jonathan Heston basically asked me today, ‘what’s up? where did you go online?’ (my rendition).  that is a good question, one i really thought about and it’s true.

so here’s the skinny:

Ethiopia was a very impactful trip, one that will stay with me for a long time.  the trip was also very life changing, and mind opening. there were also issues with the trip that i am still prossessing, items to do for the follow up part of the trip that i am still needing to … follow up on, and thoughts that i am still mulling around in my head.  the trip was very good and a GREAT success, not unhappy in the least.

one of my favorite times of the trip was when we got a last minute call to head 5 hours in the other direction to meet with village elders and church leaders to talk with them about water solvency and various aspects of agricultural and project development and planning. IT WAS VERY HUMBLING to be sitting in a room with seasoned veterans that have been farming and getting water for generations, and have them ask me to help them.  so you could say, i was honored and pleased to be a part of that meeting.  we are still going over the mounds of notes we took as a team and looking at finding the best way to give these wonderful people what they need most.  on that note, my team is awesome; Christy and Ian did a wonderful job and i could not have done this trip very well without them.

things next:

  • completing the processing-data stage
  • submit information to board of elders at my church
  • decide
  • plan
  • do
  • smile
  • plan next project
  • do
  • smile
  • repeat

until next time, i love you and have a great day readers and friends.

i am heading to Ethiopia Africa tomorrow afternoon! this is a culmination of years of dreaming and praying and wondering what God wants out of my life. i’m very excited about the contacts that are laid out for me to meet with already; a couple that has lived in the area for 40+ years, so they know everything that is going on there; and a very knowledgeable Ethiopian lawyer and land-owner that has tons of connections. hopefully when i get back i’ll be able to hook up with Kevin Munro from Living Planet Earth and get some sustainable water/agriculture/forests/jobs/economy going on!

i’ll be posting videos as internet allows over there, so please keep tabs on me for the next few weeks as some exciting (to me) things will be happening.

I just found out that tumblr has PAGE options now, so i may be able to put all the vids there. we’ll see.
