Gearing up for the party!

6th Annual Finley Fireworks Party and Kaboom Bash & Fundraiser

This years 2nd of July Party is going to ROCK!

Come out to my: 6th Annual Finley Fireworks Party and Kaboom Bash & Fundraiser!

Each year i throw a large Independence day celebration and i gear it towards my mission o helping to solve the water crisis and raise awareness about it.  last year the money went to Jars of Clay’s Blood:Water Mission, this year the funds will go to Kansas City’s own Water.org. we are very excited to be helping them solve the water crisis, they have been very active in branding themselves and doing successful projects. Matt Damon has even partnered with them in this effort.

$25 will give someone water forever. how many lives will you save this holiday?

Yup. I’ve used reusable water bottles since 2006. (I went to Cal, so of course I’m “green.”)

abagond:

Some quick fact about bottled water:

  • 40% is just plain old tap water
  • 22% does not meet strict state health limits
  • It takes 3x more water to make the bottle than to fill it.

blkmamba:

mynoxide:

I think I might just buy a reusable bottle now.

this is insane.

3 year old washing her clothes, Ghana

her momma raised her properly!

love.

This child is beautiful, and this picture is precious in so many ways. I just feel like a 3 year old child should not have to wash her clothes which is why this picture makes me kind of sad. Maybe it’s just me…?

This is how we fix it! #watercrisis #watersolutions

cdangt asked: I've only recently became fully aware of the Water Crisis. When I say recently I mean the past couple of months/less. Right now I'm in the stages of further educating myself and just getting the word out to others. I'm trying to look into I guess the "next step".

that is very awesome! i am glad to know that there are more people everyday that are wanting to do something about this really big problem. good news is that you can!

cdangt asked: Hey Cory! You wrote about a water trip you went on, what agency did you go with? I've been wanting to get more involved in helping the Water Crisis. Looking through your blog you seem very well educated and passionate about the subject, any pointers in getting the word out?

Absolutely!  I am all for helping out a fellow water’er.  My story has been an interesting one, all self taught and gleaned from those around me, book, and sites.  A really good site is http://water.org they know their stuff and have a good site.  Check all their pages from the bar on the top of their hompage.  Good stuff.

The water crisis is huge!  Very huge, over 10,400 people die each day from something we could fix.

MOST of what I post is just info I have taken from other sites and books.

About my trip, I went through my local church, and headed up our newly formed water solvency team for Africa.  We are starting in Ethiopia and going to work from there.  http://www.lifewater.org/ has a really good intern program and more info if you are interested. so does http://www.bloodwatermission.com/ all of those sites have good ideas for spreading the news and raising money to solve.  Also, feel free to ask me a question ANYTIME.  I am on facebook as Cory A. Finley as well.

So glad you are on the team who cares!

new to the idea of “water crisis”?

You may have read it somewhere or heard someone say it but you don’t know what it means? h2oCory reveals all!  Ok, i’ll stop the shenanigans, “water crisis” is pretty real and very hardcore.

Water crisis is a term used to refer to the world’s water resources relative to human demand.” (United Nations statement on water crisis)

There are several principal manifestations of the water crisis.

  • Inadequate access to safe drinking water for about 884 million people[9]
  • Inadequate access to water for sanitation and waste disposal for 2.5 billion people[10]
  • Groundwater overdrafting (excessive use) leading to diminished agricultural yields[11]
  • Overuse and pollution of water resources harming biodiversity
  • Regional conflicts over scarce water resources sometimes resulting in warfare

So, if you are new to the idea of what a water crisis is, basically, not enough water where it needs to be, to much pollution where it shouldn’t be, and humans killing each other for it because it’s more valuable than food, gold, oil, and third only to air and God in my book.  It’s a big deal.

every 15 seconds

You are one of two people.

  1. A toe dipper at a public pool - the idea is nice, but you don’t like the temp.
  2. The eager young child - we’re all getting wet someday, might as well jump in.

I would love for you to be the eager young child, not only because this is my passion, but because this “crisis” is spreading faster that those in America would like to admit.  Soon it will be on everyones front door, 32 United States are already in a state of water crisis and the crisis is growing.  Contractors are building homes where there is already a strain on the water supply, dams are built and water diverted, pollution, drought, etc.

Wanna help? GET INVOLVED. I know you can do something, because I can as well.
